Throughout the year, a number of special events are held at the recreation center or one of the related facilities. Please call for additional information.

Fishing Derby - June 27, 2009

The Annual Fishing Derby is Saturday morning at Farris Memorial Park. Participants vie for trophies in age categories starting with toddlers through senior adults.

Dan River Boat Race - August 1, 2009

The first Saturday in August is a day of family-oriented fun as canoe and kayak enthusiasts converge on the Dan River. Awards are given to winners in various age categories and divisions. At the end of the 2 1/2 mile trek, participants can enjoy lunch, musical entertainment, and visit vendors while waiting for the times to be tallied. The past few years have brought more than 100 boats and even more participants from across North Carolina and surrounding states, creating lasting memories and a wonderful event! Halloween Carnival - Monday October 26, 2009

The Youth Council sponsors an annual Halloween Carnival for ages 10 and under. Activities include a variety of games, a ballooon artist, cakewalk, concessions, and costume contest. Game tickets cost 25 cents each or 5 for $1.00. All games cost 1 ticket. The carnival is held on a weekday evening from 6:00 - 7:30PM. Easter Egg Hunt - April 4, 2009

The Youth Council sponsors an Easter Egg Hunt for ages 10 and under. The Easter Egg Hunt is free of charge and takes place at Farris Memorial Park at 2PM. For more information contact the Madison-Mayodan Recreation Department at 548-2789 or 548-9572.

Swing Night Special - April 18, 2009, 7 - 10PM

Free dance lessons in Swing Dancing will be offered by the Greensboro Big Band.
